How do Environment Issues Influence the Market?

A - Environmental awareness has risen during the last decades and has had an important impact on policy making. The result is that much legislation has been introduced regulating environmental impacts of timber production and influencing markets and consumer behaviour. Read more

B - Unregulated forestry and Illegal Logging in particular are a matter of great concern to NGOs, Governments and trade. Its negative impact on livelihoods, development, and trade are well documented. The trade is affected primarily by reputational risks and market forgery due to the low prices and sometimes difficult tracing of illegal harvested timber. Read more

C – To support sustainable use of forest resources, some Governments develop specific Procurement Guidelines. They
demand the documentation of high environmental standards from timber suppliers. The timber trade has to verify supply chains and document the legal harvest and sustainability of its products. Read more
